Hound Dog Breed Group

Hound Dogs are typical dog hunters that are found in two categories: sight hounds – haunting by firstly observing, and hunting by chasing– scent hounds. These dogs are used to help hunters in tracing the animal being hunted.

Sighthounds are modest and fast dogs, while scent hounds are stronger and harsher. Hounds are animals that do not enjoy being instructed by others, and even when they agree to do so, they like to know the reason why you are asking them to do that specific thing – something that distinguishes them as very clever dogs. The first ones, sighthounds, enjoy walking in a safe path, while the other group, scent hounds, has more curious and brave dogs – interested to chase any challenging footpath.

Hounds can defer one of another, so, some might have short and smooth hair and some others might have long and captivating coats; some are tall and some other short-legged dogs. Whatever the group is, hounds are distinguished for the significant baying noise they release. However, in general, hounds are of a wide diversity – both in behavior and physical features.

Being very vigilant, scent hounds nowadays are used by the law enforcement authorities for chasing people who run away from the authorities or for finding missing persons. Besides, hounds serve as the best racing dogs in dog races.

Speaking of getting a dog, hounds make an excellent choice – as they are trustful, energetic, and strong animals.

Let us take a look over some of the most well-known hound dogs
